Pennsylvania Electric: What to Look for in an Energy-Efficient Dishwasher

Upgrading your home’s appliances is one of the easiest ways to save on your Pennsylvania electric bill. And, with the energy-efficient rebates and tax credits being handed out by the government these days, you can save even more.

If you’re in the market for a new dishwasher, following are a couple of features to look for that can save you money on your monthly utility bill.

Look for the Energy Star Sticker

This is the most important feature to look for because it lets you know that you’re buying an environmentally friendly appliance. These units are rich in energy-saving features, ie:

Partial Load Settings: Dishwashers with this setting use a lot less hot water than those without. Although, you should try to wash full loads every time you use your dishwasher.

Energy-Saving Drying Options: Select a unit that offers the air-drying option instead of the heat-drying option. Heat drying uses more energy.

Tip: Get zero-cost air drying by simply opening the door of any dishwasher you buy and drying your dishes this way.

Pennsylvania Electric: Don’t Rinse Your Energy Savings Down the Drain

This is exactly what you’re doing if you’re on a prepaid electric service plan. These budget-busting plans can easily cost 15, 20 or 25% or more than conventional electric plans. For example, if the average Pennsylvanian is paying 11 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), if you’re on a prepaid electric service plan, you could be paying 14, 15 or 16 cents – for the same electricity.

Don’t!

Low-income, fixed income and credit-challenged Pennsylvania residents have options, especially as they live in a competitive electricity market where they can choose their energy provider.

Call your Pennsylvania electricity company and ask about no-deposit and low-deposit electric plan options like LIHEAP and Budget Billing. Why pay more when help is just a phone call away?
