Texas Electric: Did You Know You Can Get an Energy Tax Break This Memorial Day Weekend?
Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner. And to celebrate it, Texas consumers are eligible for a break on state and local sales and uses taxes if they purchase energy efficient products during this time (May 29th through May 31st).
What qualifies as energy efficient products? Those with the Energy Start label. Following are further specifics of this offer.
Qualifying Products
Following are some of the qualifying products you’ll get a sales tax break on:
Air conditioners: United must cost less than $6,000 (room and central units)
Washing Machines: While washing machines qualify, clothes dryers don’t because most of them use about the same amount of energy. Hence, Energy Star does not lend its label to dryers.
Refrigerators: Must cost less than $2,000.
Ceiling Fans: A great alternative to air conditioners, especially on those not-so-hot summer days.
Dish Washers; and even
Light Bulbs: Can be fluorescent or incandescent.
You can shop in retail outlets or online and still qualify for the tax break – as long as the item(s) is paid for during the exemption period, even if it is delivered at a later date.
