Everyone by now knows that "Going Green" is in right now and by trying to help save the environment you not only will be promoting your brand in a positive light but will be doing the right thing. According to prime minister Gordon Brown of the UK we only have 50 days to save the United Kingdom from floods and hurricanes caused by global warming that will create a mass exodus from Great Britain into other countries. Of course some politicians claims are a bit outrageous but a more normal approach that lowering our carbon emissions will also create less pollution is a better phylosophy. Global warming isn't a proven theory at this point as many in Europe have agreed but in the USA it has captured many on the liberal lefts attention and there isn't much that will disuade them.
If you are a business or a person interested in buying Carbon Offsets to reduce your carbon footprint you need to know a few things before purchasing them. Carbon credits are unregulated which means there are many people selling carbon offsets on the internet that are con artists basically selling you nothing. No matter how you look at it your transaction is a virtual one and the only proof you will receive is maybe a piece of paper crediting you with so many tons of carbon offset credits. The piece of paper you receive will usually be licensed or accredited by an agency. These agencies are not regulated either which means the same company selling you the carbon credit could by accrediting their offsets as legit when they could just be a piece of paper.
In order to determine what agency is legit we recommend you look at government resources and see if you can track down any type of legitamacy. This is hard to do as the US government hasn't really looked into these markets very carefully yet. Another option is to see what larger well known companies in the US are using to offset their carbon emissions. If McDonalds is buying carbon credits from Offset Company A then it is more likely that they are buying them from a legitmate source than your grandmother in Florida may have bought hers from. You can then backwards engineer the carbon credit you bought by looking at the accrediting agency that approved that carbon offset you have bought. If the agency comes up clean by doing a google search you might just be alright.
Carbon Credits are used to offset carbon that is created from things like producing the electricity your home, business, or other related activity uses. They are also used to offset your automobiles carbon footprint and many other machines and appliances. The difference in price among carbon offset credits differs drastically. It is hard to determine just how much money these companies are making that sell carbon offset products but chances are great that you will be paying way more for your carbon credit than it is really worth. You may find a better use of your money in just taking steps at your home or business in lowering your electricity usage and the type of car you drive. A large American made SUV that gets 13 miles to the gallon can actually get up to 33 miles to the gallon if you coast down hills on the highway in neutral and turn off the car while at red lights. You do not necessarily have to pay $10,000 to buy a Prius when you can use your same things more effciently.
